Smith, who is also the district’s athletics director, has more than 36 years of experience as an educator. In addition to his current duties, his tenure in Richland One has included serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, interim principal, executive director and assistant to the deputy superintendent.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including SCASA, the S.C. Alliance of Black School Educators, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the S.C. SCASA also announced May 3 that Darlington County Superintendent Dr. Rainey Harris Knight had been named the 2013 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year. Moseley Architects supports the District-Level Administrator of the Year and the Superintendent of the Year awards by providing a scholarship to each winner to be used to assist a student or teacher with professional development or college courses.
Smith and Knight will be recognized at SCASA’s Innovative Ideas Institute in June and at other events throughout the year.
