Richland County Voters Pass Sales Tax

The 1-cent sales tax leading, 53-47, with just two precincts still out.

A hard-fought campaign to pass a 1-cent sales tax to fund transportation initiatives passed in Richland County on Tuesday.

While two precincts remain to be counted, the referendum is leading 53-37.

The increase — a penny per dollar on most purchases for the next 22 years — is estimated to generate more than $1 billion to be used for the bus system, roadways, bike paths, and pedestrian greenway projects.
