Democrats Call on Haley to Approve 4k in Budget

Now that the budget has been approved by the General Assembly, Democrats are calling on Gov. Nikki Haley to approve one of the key items in the $22 billion plan.
South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison urged the governor to sign off on  the portion of the budget that would approve funding for four-year-old kindergarten. Harrison said in a statement:

“In the past, Governor Haley has allowed national issues, politics and Tea Party ideology to dictate her actions. Only the best interests of our children, our economy and our state should influence her decision on education opportunities for our kids. I call on Governor Haley to support the expansion of 4-year-old kindergarten in the budget and vow not to veto this important improvement for our state.

“Increasing access to 4-year-old kindergarten is a tremendous step forward for South Carolina’s children that puts control in the hands of the our teachers and school leaders who know South Carolina’s children best. It’s also a responsible investment that is one of the most cost-effective ways of improving public education and helping to prepare our next generation of workers for the new economy.

“So, Governor Haley, stand up for children. Vow not to veto the funds expanding opportunities for 4 year olds to attend kindergarten. And if you won’t, well then we’ll all know that politics was the reason why.”
