Weekends often prove deadly for drivers in South Carolina. From Sept. 14-16, eight people died on South Carolina highways, including one from Irmo.
One died on an interstate, while seven died on secondary roads. Seat belts were not used in four of the motor vehicle accidents that resulted in death. Two of the deaths were motorcyclists and one was a pedestrian, according to a Deparment of Public Safety press release.
As of Sept. 16, 557 people have died on South Carolina highways, a drastic decrease from the 595 that died in the same time period in 2011.
Drive safely this weekend.
