Hearing Called to Investigate DHEC Response to TB Cases

Session set for Aug. 8.

The Senate Medical Affairs Committee has called a public hearing to investigate DHEC's response to the tuberculosis outbreak in Greenwood County.

Chairman Harvey Peeler (R- Cherokee) said in a release, "I feel it is important that all Medical Affairs Committee members hear from DHEC regarding the tuberculosis outbreak, the Department's response, the procedures in place to notify the public of such outbreaks and any pending or forthcoming litigation."

The meeting has been called for Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in room 308 of the Gressette Building in Columbia.

A Saturday story in The State seemed to indicate that DHEC knew that individuals at a school in Greenwood County had contracted tuberculosis but refrained from telling the public immediately.
