Rand Paul to Appear at Jeff Duncan Event Next Month

Patch has learned that Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul will appear at the Faith and Freedom BBQ next month hosted by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-3).

Paul, the son of former Texas Congressman and darling of the Libertarian movement Ron Paul, was elected to the Senate in 2010. He quickly became a favorite of more conservative Republicans and drew national attention earlier this year when he filibustered for nearly 13 hours against the nomination of John Brennan to lead the CIA. Paul's opposition was based on Brennan's support of the use of drones on American soil.

Paul has been mentioned as a likely candidate for president in 2016 and a tour of South Carolina in June only furthered that speculation, just as his appearance here in August will.

Many in the GOP told Patch that Paul was received favorably by rank and file in the party, particularly as he made efforts to distance himself from strictly Libertarian views of his father.

Also scheduled to appear at Duncan's event is Sen. Tim Scott. Additional guests are expected to be announced at a later date.

The BBQ, the third such event hosted by Duncan will take place at the Anderson Civic Center on Aug. 26. More information is expect to be announced by Duncan's office on Sunday.
