Today is Election Day. St. Andrews-area voters face a slew of choices. Here’s a look at what to expect:

3:45 p.m.: A Chance to Education Children

Kartia Turner and her sons Jordan and Justin Beasley, both 7, Todd Garrett, 11, and Torrey Bates, 17, (see photo) voted together so their mom could talk about the importance of voting.

"I wanted them to learn that reading is fundamental and voting is very important at every level," Turner said.

2:15 p.m.: More Machines Were Requested

While turnout was heavy this morning at Reformation Lutheran Church in Earlewood, the line has disappeared this afternoon.

Only 516 have voted today, said Anthony Wilson, poll manager.

There are only three machines for this election even though Wilson said he requested more.

2 p.m.: Long Lines = Free Donuts?

Supporters of Joe McCulloch, a candidate for SC House Seat 75, are handing out Krispy Kreme donuts to Richland County voters who have to wait in long lines because of faulty machines.

Michael Ashcraft brough eight dozen to the Sims Park location.

1:45 p.m.: Long Lines A Small Sacrifice

Lynn Teague with the League of Women Voters said: "The wait in line was definitely worth it. We all have to vote. It's our way of participating. Many people fought and died for that right and the women's vote did not come easy."

7:30 a.m.: Polls Open, Lines Forming

People started lining up early in Richland County this morning.

At the Richland County Elections Commission, people were already waiting by 6 a.m.

Local Elections

State Senate 

Democrat Robert Rikard will face longtime GOP Sen. John Courson for Senate District 20. The race has turned nasty at times.

Penny Tax

Richland County voters will vote whether or to increase the county sales tax by a penny in an initiative that could generate $1 billion for transportation projects. For more on the measure click HERE.

Richland County Council 2

A Richland photographer,  a Republican, is running against incumbent Joyce Dickerson, a Democrat. 

Richland One Board of Trustees

Two seats will be elected at large. The candidates for these open seats are Vince Ford, Moryah Jackson, Antjuan Seawright and Barbara A. Scott.

Seat 2: Jamie Devine is running against Racquel Dobbs.

Seat 3: Beatrice King will run unopposed in a special election to fill an unexpired term. 

Seat 4: Cheryl Hinton Harris will run unopposed. 

Coroner

Gary Watts is running unopposed as Richland County Coroner. 

Sheriff

Leon Lott is running unopposed as Richland County Sheriff

Clerk of Court

Jeanette McBride is running unopposed as Clerk of Court.
