The fire started around 4:30 a.m. at Stone Ridge Apartments.
An early-morning fire at Stone Ridge Apartments off Greystone Boulevard sent two people to the hospital, according to reports. The fire started just before 4:30 a.m., according to WIS. The Columbia and Irmo fire departments responded. A total of 12 apartments are damaged, according to WLTX. It took firefighters hours to put out the fire because of the high winds.

The SC Highway Patrol reports a tractor trailer is blocking lanes on I-20 eastbound at I-26.
The S.C. Highway Patrol reports an overturned tractor trailer is blocking two lanes on Interstate 20 at Interstate 26 in Lexington County. The trailer is on the eastbound lane of I-20 at I-26. Only one lane is open. Units from the Irmo Fire Department are also on the scene and have reported a small fuel spill. Drivers can expect delays and are advised to drive carefully as you pass on the left and merge onto I-20. No injuries have been reported.

Firefighters from around the state gathered in Irmo to kick off a campaign aimed at educating the public on the life-saving benefits of fire sprinkler systems for homes in all national model codes.
IRMO — In the United States, an average of seven people a day die in house fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). South Carolina firefighters in partnership with the NFPA are working to prevent those deaths by educating the public on the many lifesaving benefits of residential fire sprinkler systems. "Soon the South Carolina Building Code Council will decide whether or not to require home fire sprinklers in new homes by adopting this provision [fire sprinkler requirement by the International Building Codes Council] as part of its residential code," said Randy Safer, southern regional director of the NFPA, which includes South Carolina.
