Byrd, Haas Miss Invitation Back to The Masters

Clemson alums fell out of contention with the leaders after Saturday's round.

Anderson native Jonathan Byrd didn't have enough birdies to receive an invitation to The Masters next year. Byrd would birdie three of the last 18 holes, but also had five bogeys in the final round. The former Spring Valley High and Clemson University standout would finish 3-over-par on Sunday, tying for 27th place, and missing the cutoff for the top 16 players to receive an invitation for next year's tourney by seven shots. Bill Haas of Greenville would finish the day 2-under-par, but it wouldn't be enough to earn him an invitation back. Peter Hanson of Sweden, who fired the round of the day with birdies on four of the last five holes to reach 65, is at 9-under-par for a one-stroke advantage. Phil Mickelson recovered from 4-over after his first 10 holes to shoot 2-under and is only one shot behind. Byrd is in 19th place and still has plenty of …

Five Area Golfers Performing Well at The Masters

Bill Haas and Jonathan Byrd are tied in a group that features Tiger Woods.

Going into Friday rounds at Augusta National, five area golfers are still in the hunt. Bill Haas and Jonathan Byrd begin the second round at The Masters even par at 72, tied in a group that includes Tigers Woods. Anderson native and former Clemson standout Byrd was crowned co-champion of the annual Masters Par-3 tournament after rain and storms shortened the annual Wednesday tradition. Clemson alumns Lucas Glover and Kyle Stanley are both three over at 75. And in his first appearance, Clemson junior Corbin Mills is tied with Phil Mickelson, who has worn the green jacket three times. Want to know more? Check out the leaderboard. ESPN will have live coverage from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Live coverage on masters.com will begin at 10:45 a.m.
