Dog Tags in Honor of K9 Officer Fargo on Sale

Dog tags and key chains featuring Fargo, the canine officer shot and killed during an armed robbery in 2011, are now available for sale.

Proceeds from the sale will go to the Richland County Sheriff's Foundation, which supports the sheriff's department through fundraising and donations, oftentimes helping deputies and their families in the event of a crisis and general need.

Fargo, a Belgian Malinois, was shot and killed after he and his human partner as well as other deputies were pursuing an armed robbery suspect near Monticello Road on Dec. 16, 2011. Fargo caught the suspect who police say shot him three times, then fired at deputies. The suspect was caught a short time later.

Fargo was the partner of master deputy Warren Cavanagh. Fargo had been with the department since 2006 and specialized in narcotics detection, tracking and criminal apprehension, according to a release.

The dog tags will be available at all area Taco Bells, online at www.RCSFSC.com or by email at fargotag@gmail.com. The cost is $15.

On Saturday, deputies and their K9 partners will be at the following Taco Bell locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help promote the fundraiser:
