Graham Off to Egypt at Obama's Request

Graham will be joined by Arizona Sen. John McCain to push for elections in the wake of the latest round of upheaval.

Numerous media outlets have reported that Sen. Lindsey Graham will travel to Egypt next week at the request of President Obama.

Graham will be joined by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on the trip and they'll advocate for elections in the wake of the overthrow of Muhammed Morsi as president in early July.

The Obama Administration has been reluctant to characterize Morsi's ouster as a coup, while McCain has not.

Graham has previously said it is important for Egypt to remain stable for the sake of its neighbor to the east, Israel, the United States' staunchest ally in the region.

Since Morsi's overthrow, an estimated 200 people have been killed in crackdowns as authorities try to restore order.
